All My Love, Dad

Letters To My Children

October 5, 2025

To my children, their spouses, and grandchildren,

There’s so much noise in the world. It’s deafening. Most of it is meaningless. What voices do you listen to and what do you give your precious time to?

I’m passionate about my country and preserving the good things and the freedoms we have here. There’s no question God has blessed our country and it’s long been a beacon of light in this dark world and the spring board for countless missionaries over the last couple centuries. The problem is, I don’t see you guys as much as I used to. Some of you haven’t lived in my house for many years, and it strikes me that much of what you do hear from me might just be X posts on the rotten state of politics, or, as I’m sure you would prefer, funny reels. Both of those are fine, but I’ve got more I want to say to you. Things that are actually important. Things that matter eternally. Things that I want you to understand sooner and better than I did. This is the format I came up with, so you can come back to it, and it doesn’t get lost in your text messages. You may not listen to me, especially if the Holy Spirit doesn’t help me out here, but I will do my part of giving you everything I can. I want to give you a beautiful inheritance of more than wealth—Godly wisdom is the most valuable thing I can give you; as it’s revealed to me, I’ll leave it here for you. So, I’m shifting my priorities, because honestly, saving America and conservative values is a losing battle. You should still fight that battle and protect your families, but it’s not where our hope is. Eventually (I hope not for a long time), America and everything good will seem to fail as evil rises and has its moment; that’s predetermined. But the Kingdom of God will prevail; that’s also predetermined. We need to try and wrap our minds around the fact that all of human history (which our lives are a tiny part of) is just a brief prelude to the everlasting, all-glorious Kingdom of God.

It’s tough for me to say this, because I like talking about politics with you guys, but I’ve decided that I care little about your views on politics, because in the end, most of that is fodder. If any are important, it is because they are issues of morality, and better addressed from a spiritual perspective anyway. What I care desperately about is your hearts and souls pursuing God and knowing Him. By the way, I pray for that often and I always will; it is my heart’s cry. I ask that God would capture your hearts at any expense—I would rather He ruin you if needed to accomplish a great work in you, so please take the easier path! If you are walking with Christ and pursuing Him, you’ll have plenty of wisdom to discern political garbage.

My desire for each of you and myself is that our hearts are enthralled with love for Christ to the extent that our lives are spent in the only truly meaningful pursuit under the sun: in whatever we do, we magnify Christ, love others, give generously, and share the gospel as much as possible. You’ll find that a lifetime really isn’t that long. He can give you the desire and fire to do these things joyfully well and finish strong.

All my love, Dad.
